Dancers

Dancers by Arthur B. Davies was painted from 1914-1915. Some of his work was featured in the famous Armory Show of 1913. Davies was also one of the primary organizers of the Armory Show. He first painted romantic landscapes but later switched his focus toward painting people, putting an emphasis on the female figure. He used elements of cubism, as shown in Dancers. I find his use of colors fascinating. He used colors in this painting to focus the different muscles and planes of the bodies, as well as to depict lighting and some depth. Despite his use of geometric shapes, the figures don't look choppy or rough but elegant which is part of the reason I find this painting so interesting.
