listening to the living

This painting is "listening to the living" by Roberto Matta, found on page 195 of our modern art text book.

This oil on canvas painting was created in 1941 when his paintings were inspired by his trip to mexico with his wife. in the mid-1940s his early abstractions gave way to paintings in which mechanical and insect-like shapes float and collide in a cosmic space charged with dynamic tension. the reason i chose this painting was because of all the abstract colors and shapes. at first glance it doesnt clearly show an image but it is very intriguing to try and figure out what the painting is all about. the only thing that i recognize in the picture is that there is a distinction between land and the sky.
